Asian Seed 2000, the 7th annual conference of Asia & Pacific Seed Association (APSA) was held in Bangalore from September 25, 2000 to September 28, 2000. The President of APSA Mr. Uday Singh (Chairman, Namdhari Seeds Pvt. Ltd.) brought this conference to Bangalore. Seed Association of India and Association of Seed Industry jointly co-hosted the conference. Top managers from Indian Seed Industry, belonging to both the Associations, volunteered their services in organising the event. The number of registered delegates crossed all the previous records. There were 527 delegates from more than 30 countries.

The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Karnataka,Mr. S.M. Krishna inaugurated Asian Seed 2000 at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. There were Technical Sessions, Trading Sessions, Exhibitions, Golf Tournament, Spouse programme and the Closing Ceremony chalked out for the conference. The delegates explored Business opportunities by exchanging views, opinions, products and inventions of new hybrids and technology. The cultural programmes at the Inaugural session and the Grand Banquet depicted the rich art & culture of India. Minister of Agriculture - Mr.T.B. Jayachandra, Minister of Horticulture - Mr. Allam Veerabhadrappa, Dr. R.S Paroda - DG, ICAR and other dignitaries graced the occasion. An award was given to Dr. S.S.Virmani, IRRI, Phillipines for his extra-ordinary contributions in Rice Research. Finally Mr. Chris Melham took charge as President of APSA. The Director of APSA, Dr. Noel G. Mamicpic, thanked National Organising Committee for the excellent arrangements made for Asian Seed 2000. Co-Convenor, National Organising Committee Mr. Buta Singh Kanwal (Director, Namdhari Seeds Pvt. Ltd) was most active in organising the Asian Seed 2000. Dr. V.S.S. Rao (Director, Namdhari Seeds Pvt. Ltd.) was the member of Tour Committee. Mr. Benedict Reddy (Namdhari Seeds Pvt. Ltd) supervised the setting up of the Secretariat and other arrangements. The Asian Seed 2001 will be held in Chiba, Japan.
